Cloud Migration to AWS Graviton Instances Optimises Cost and Enhances Performance for Cybex
Cybex is a global leader in data analysis software and market intelligence tools, offering deep insights into international markets, trade data, and competitor analysis. Known for its expansive export-import database, Cybex enables users to access complex datasets intuitively and cost-effectively. With increase in data variety and customer demands, Cybex realised the need to improve performance, reduce operational costs, and maintain its competitive advantage by modernising its Cloud infrastructure.
Building a Cost-Effective and High-Performance Infrastructure
Cybex aimed to have an advanced infrastructure to support its expanding operations and increasing data processing demands, while aligning with its goal for optimised costs. In addition, Cybex’s data was diverse and complex, consisting of approximately 4 billion records divided into various categories, with each type requiring different filters and search queries. Thus, the existing infrastructure needed some strengthening to significantly enhance indexing and search speeds.
Solution
Cybex partnered with Noventiq, a trusted AWS premier partner, with deep expertise in cloud transformations, to help it with a solution. Noventiq suggested migrating its workloads to AWS Graviton. AWS Graviton is a family of ARM-based processors custom-built by AWS to deliver high-performance computing with better cost efficiency. The solution involved migrating Amazon EC2, Amazon RDS, AWS Lambda, and OpenSearch workloads to Graviton2 instances, delivering substantial cost efficiency and performance improvements. The migration incorporated Amazon OpenSearch for rapid data indexing and query processing, ensuring seamless handling of large datasets with reduced latency. By leveraging Amazon Auto Scaling strengthened by Graviton’s inherent scaling, Cybex achieved dynamic scalability, efficiently managing traffic demands while minimising operational costs. Graviton’s flexibility in workload management allowed Cybex to allocate resources efficiently for both computational and storage needs.
The architecture included:
- Amazon EC2 Graviton Instances for efficient compute-intensive operations and web application hosting.
- Amazon RDS with PostgreSQL for managing complex datasets with high availability and automated backups.
- Amazon OpenSearch for low-latency, scalable data indexing and querying.
- AWS Lambda (Graviton-powered) for serverless data processing, enabling real-time triggers and data transformations without server provisioning.
- AWS Lambda (Graviton-powered) for serverless data processing, enabling real-time triggers and data transformations without server provisioning.
- Amazon S3 for secure storage of extensive datasets such as export-import records.
- Amazon VPC for secure and isolated network environments for various services.
- Amazon CloudWatch for comprehensive monitoring of performance and cost metrics.
Tangible Benefits
The transition to AWS Graviton provided Cybex with significant advantages in terms of cost and performance. Cost savings of up to 40% were realised across EC2, RDS, OpenSearch, and Lambda services, enabling the company to scale its infrastructure without inflating its budget. Scalability and flexibility improved, allowing Cybex to manage peak loads seamlessly during high user activity. Faster query performance on large datasets enhanced the overall user experience, while Graviton’s energy-efficient design supported Cybex’s sustainability initiatives by reducing its carbon footprint.
